Neuroscience Berlin

Find a Program!

For many years now the Charité Medical School has run the highly successful international Master’s and PhD program Medical Neurosciences. In recent years a number of new graduate programs in the neurosciences have been created in Berlin, establishing the city as a hotspot for neuroscience training within Europe. In 2006, the Berlin School of Mind and Brain (GSC 86) was founded as part of Germany’s Excellence Initiative and offers an international doctoral degree in topics that fall at the interface between the humanities and the social sciences with the neurosciences. Around this timealso the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin started it’s own Master’s and PhD program in (naturally) computational neurosciences. Two Research Training Groups funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinsschaft (German Research Council) were established in 2005 and 2006. The first offers a PhD in the learning and memory (GRK 1123 – Cellular Mechanisms of Learning and Memory Consolidation in the Hippocampal Formation), the second concentrated on “Neuroinflammation” (GRK 1258 – The Impact of Inflammation on Nervous System Function), but came to an end in 2010. Since 2008 the Helmholtz Society has funded a neuroscience doctoral program at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine. Finally, the large research clusters NeuroCure (EXC 257) and Languages of Emotion (EXC 302), both established as part of Germany’s Excellence Initiative, have set up their own PhD programs.
